Hello! My name is Dr. John
DiVelbiss. I have
been a practicing doctor of chiropractic for more than 22 years. In
that time, I have been privileged to help many patients, especially
those with headaches of various types and neck pain.
The MOST common form of
headaches that I
have
seen and helped are the "muscle" or tension headaches or neck pains.
Even patients that thought or were told that they had migraines or
sinusitis often turned out to actually be suffering from referred
muscle pain that mimicked these other headache types!

interested in information that can help you to learn a new way to stop
your neck pain or headaches.
Let me give you the benefit
of some of the
things I have learned in those years of successfully helping people
with headaches and neck pain, people like you.
First if you have repeated
bouts of
headaches
or neck pain, find out why!
Essentially, you need to know
the "kind" of
problem to win the PAIN GAME!!
Second, if you seen your MD
or Chiropractor
for
help, you probably have found that you keep taking drugs or getting
treatments if you are not changing the "WHY" of your headaches or neck
pain! So even though you may get relief, you don’t break the
cycle.
With muscle related pain, you
might have to
change your overuse or bad posture positions. You might need to get a
new mattress or pillow to better support you. You might stretch or
strengthen your muscles to stop the pain. If you do these things and
don’t get better on the average, maybe you need more specific
help or advice.
Unfortunately, you probably
are not close
enough for me to evaluate, treat or teach you. Plus doctor visits cost
money and travel time. But the common problem of the vast majority of
my patients with recurring pains like headache, neck pain, and back
pain is that they have muscle imbalances that WILL NOT LET THEM HOLD
THEIR TREATMENT!
As a result they and you will
not get
better…you will stay on the unending cycle of headaches or
neck
pain. Basically, for your pain to stop, you must change your automatic
muscle support so that your body can control and adapt to stresses
without undue pain.
When I see people like you I
find out what
they
are suffering and their history…how they got to be in this
bad
shape. Take this simple test...Mark ALL that describe you:
____ Neck pain or headache
regularly or
occasionally for no apparent reason.
____ Neck is often tight.
____ Prior WHIPLASH
injury to the neck from a fall, car
accident or other jolt.
____ Feel a need to "pop" your neck.
____ Sudden movements pinch or hurt.
____ Unexplained vertigo or dizziness on moving neck.
____ Headaches often resulting from or accompanying neck ache.
____ Vision is blurred or you have trouble reading because your eyes
get tired or won't focus.
____ Eye(s) feel irritated.
____ Mild balance and coordination problems.
____ Though you use chiropractic or massage practitioners for recurring
pain or spasm, your neck never seems to stabilize and fully recover.
____ Head feels too heavy for your neck.
____ Hard to look upward or keep your neck extended for any length of
time at all.
____ After medical testing, there is no definite or helpful diagnosis
for your neck pains and headaches.
____ You don't want to be dependent on painkillers and muscle relaxers.
Well, how'd you do? Any one
of these, but
particularly if you have several of the items in the list can mean a
definite need for a program to correct your neck muscle and joint
balance problems. WHY is this true?
A large part of your body's
pain nerves can
be
triggered when joints and muscles get out of balance...too tight, too
weak or too uncoordinated. This can happen from sudden injury like a
car accident or other trauma. ALSO, you can get into this painful
condition by many smaller stresses like overuse, poor posture or lack
of correct exercise.
The result is the same...
PAIN and other
symptoms which YOU learn to suffer with daily, weekly, monthly,
yearly...ENOUGH!
There are better ways to help
yourself than
doing what you done or doing nothing. You may have already seen your
family doctor, only to be given drugs. When they "work", it's great!
But often you have to keep taking them again and again.
Now, I'm glad if you've seen
your doctor,
especially to make sure that your symptoms and pain are not a life
threatening disease! But...now what?
You could be one of the
millions of folks
who
regularly go to a Chiropractor for relief. This too is a great step!
But does the neck pain or headaches keep coming back?
You may have tried massage
therapy,
hopefully
it did help. But you don't seem to quite stop those pains from coming
back.
TIME
TO LEARN A SOLUTION!
It is usually never enough to
passively get
care from anyone else and expect YOU to get HEALTHY! You must activate
your own recovery and self-healing! So for you to change, you must
change you!!
HOW??
By restoring your neck to the
relaxed,
smooth
and balanced alignment and movement you lost from injury or abuse, or
never developed! I found out that as I worked with my patients that
many needed something more also. I searched for information or
techniques that would help them more. What I found out is that they

giving my patients both specific stretches and strengthening exercises
after I had examined them. Plus whatever treatment they needed.

neck that answered my questions.
The basic idea is this:
Nerve endings in your muscles
both make a
muscle contract and more importantly they also give feedback for the
brain to know what is happening in the muscle so the brain can
coordinate and time the muscle use. If the nerve endings in the muscle
are damaged or not well trained, the output or muscle contractions will
be weak or poorly timed so they get in the way of normal movement or
comfort. Since you use your neck so much, even a small "mess up" in
nerve control can cause pain, especially neck and head pain!
